get to know me

Hi, I’m Rachel

Pull up a chair! I’d love to tell you how a little about me and how I got here. I was raised by a true homemaker in a small town in Oklahoma, and was homeschooled through the primary grades. This combination was such a gift. Some of my favorite memories include sitting on a counter while mom made dinner, watching her decorate cakes (which she did as a side hustle), and working through as many math problems as I could squeeze in while she washed the dishes. I LOVED being home with my mom all day.  My mom has always had such a gift for making any place feel like home, and she is the craftiest person I know… it’s almost obnoxious! 😉

Where I Got Started

My parents always did their very best to raise me in church, and my Christian faith guides everything I do. This is especially ture in the way I approach homemaking, parenting, and homeschooling. I believe that each of us is made in the image of God. Each of us has the ability and responsibility to grow. So, I try to balance all my roles with a schedule that allows for family time, outdoor adventures, and the occasional moment of quiet (though those are rare with four kids!).

My Homeschooling Journey

Because of my upbringing the decision to homeschool was an easy one for me. It was never a question of if, but how? I explored many options and danced around the Charlotte Mason method for a few years. All of this without an awareness of who Charlotte Mason was. At the time, I was reading Sally Clarkson, listening to 1,000 Hours Outside, and following Wild and Free on instagram. I found my shelves filling up with books by Cindy Rollins and Sarah Mckenzie. All the while, I was totally unaware that Charlotte Mason’s ideals were the common link between these distant mentors. As I saw how these women were cultivating their home and remembered the elements that made my own early education so special, my heart and mind began to reach for the same things.

These mothers weren’t merely homeschooling their children, they were forming a family culture.

Crafting A Cozy Home

These ideals resonated deeply within me, as I was already passionate about creating rhythms and maintaining a peaceful and organized home. With the belief that the kitchen is the heart of the home, it was as if a string was pulled and things made sense in my mind. Before I was ever introduced to Charlotte Mason, herself, I already had similar convictions: “Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life.”

I love having a tidy and peaceful home. Evan more, I love cooking and squeezing extra people around our table. I love being creative and exploring the outdoors. When I’m not homeschooling, you’ll find me painting or in the kitchen, sometimes at the same time. Spending time with “my people” is my absolute favorite. My hope for Cozy Quiver is to build a community where other moms can feel encouraged and supported, and we can all live life together. I share in the sentiment of a dear friend: Consider this blog–my life in word-form–a buffet of sorts. Take what works for you, and leave what doesn’t. I’m glad you’re here. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me a little better.♥️
